Creating Your Etsy Shop

Many blogs and articles will have you believe that creating an Etsy shop and becoming a huge success happens overnight with a great amount of ease. While it's possible to create your Etsy shop and be very successful, this doesn't happen overnight. It takes time and effort. This little blog post is written with the purpose of helping you understand what you expect.

When you first start your Etsy shop, you will need to give some basic information about yourself and submit some identification. You can then submit your shop name. Before you can write and post your shop policies, you need to create a sales post. This may come as a surprise, considering none of your policies or other information will be posted. However, this will give you an idea of how to create a listing.

You only need to create one item listing before you can move on to complete your returns and exchange policies, shipping options, and more. There are templates available for most of the policies, which makes the whole process a lot faster and easier. And no, you don't have to accept refunds, exchanges, or even cancellations. However, Etsy makes it clear that the client can still create a dispute.

You are recommended to go through all of the tabs to the left of your screen. Fill in all of the information, or at least as much as you can. This may take a few hours if you aren't sure what to write. Once this part is done, you may want to review everything you have written and proofread it for errors.

After you are all set up, your store is published and you can start getting sales. Etsy recommends that you set up ten listings to get more attention. While your listings show up in the searches fairly quickly, ten listings will give you more visibility. Of course, you can add as many as you want.

For your posts, you will need photographs, a short video, a written description, among other things. Your photographs need to be at least 2000 pixels in length while your video only needs to be 1080 pixels. The video should be between 5-15 seconds long.

Add as much accurate information to the description as possible. Customers appreciate the extra information. Imagine yourself shopping for items and what type of information you would want, then add the same and even more, if possible.

Make sure that when you price your items, you take into account any fees you will be charged. There is a 0.20USD fee for listing. Any time you sell an item, there is this fee plus the 5% transaction fee. If the order is paid for through PayPal, there are those fees to think about as well.

Also, be aware of the shipping costs for when you create your shipping profiles. You don't have to create these profiles if you wish Etsy to calculate the shipping cost of each product for you.

Etsy enables you to offer free shipping on orders over $35USD. If you enable this feature, be sure the shipping cost, fees, and cost of goods sold does not come above your asking price. Calculate the costs carefully and ask for a price that gives you some level of profit.

When you are on your listings page, you will notice some details under each image. At the bottom right of each one, there is an icon. Click on that icon and other options will appear. You can share your listings there. This is an incredibly practical feature to help you promote your items. Naturally, you can also pay for advertising too.

If you are into blogging, you may want to create one for your Etsy shop. In this way, you can write about your products and share some images. If you want to blog but don't have time to write, it is possible to outsource this work.

Creating an Etsy shop can be completely worthwhile. There are vendors creating an amazing income for themselves as well as a great reputation. These people have put a lot of time into the shop, and provide their customers with excellent products and service. You can do this as well if you are committed to putting the time and effort into it.

If you need help, there are professionals who can set up a shop for you, photograph your products, or write product descriptions. There are also individuals who can check through your shop for errors or issues that need to be corrected.
